RMI and New Taipei City Establish Sister Museum Partnership

The Republic of the Marshall Islands and New Taipei City have strengthened their cultural ties with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Alele Museum and Public Library and the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology.

The agreement was signed on July 25 during the opening ceremony of the 2026 New Taipei City Austronesian Cultural Festival, which brought together Indigenous communities and Austronesian partners from across the Pacific and Southeast Asia to celebrate their shared cultural heritage.

H.E. Ambassador Anjanette Kattil signed the MOU on behalf of the Alele Museum and Public Library, while New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih signed on behalf of the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology.

The signing took place as part of a festival program featuring cultural performances by Taiwan indigenous groups, Marshallese and Tuvaluan students studying in Taiwan, and performers from Indonesia and Malaysia.

The sister museum agreement establishes a framework for long-term cooperation in cultural preservation, research, exhibitions, educational programs, and professional exchanges. Ambassador Kattil emphasized that the partnership reflects the enduring friendship between the Marshall Islands and Taiwan and their shared commitment to preserving Austronesian heritage, strengthening cultural understanding, and passing on their rich traditions and histories to future generations.
