Marshall Islands picks up the pieces after fire destroys its ‘heart of democracy’

The Nitijela building is more than just walls and chambers; it holds our history, our struggles, and our hopes as a people.


We, the Marshallese, have faced fire and storm before. And like the phoenix, we have always risen from the ashes — stronger, more united, and more determined.


We will rise again.



After a devastating fire, the Marshall Islands is receiving support from both Taiwan and the US to restore its damaged parliament building.
