First Pacific Cultural Gala Celebrates Pacific-Taiwan Connections
The Pacific came together in Taipei on Friday, June 5, for the inaugural Pacific Cultural Gala, hosted by the Embassies of the Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, and Palau.
Marking a significant celebration of the longstanding connections between the Pacific Islands and Taiwan, the gala brought together distinguished guests, including President H.E. Lai Ching-te, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives from across Taiwan. Hosted by H.E. Ambassador Anjanette Kattil of the Marshall Islands, H.E. Ambassador Lily Tangisia Faavae of Tuvalu, and Palau Chargé d’Affaires David Adams Orrukem, the evening celebrated the enduring connections between the Pacific Islands and Taiwan through music, dance, traditional customs, and Pacific Island cuisine.
In her remarks, H.E. Ambassador emphasized that the deep Austronesian roots shared by the Pacific and Taiwan transcend geography, connecting our peoples across generations through culture, language, and a profound relationship with the ocean. In his remarks, President Lai highlighted the Pacific as a bridge that connects maritime nations and the shared values of freedom and democracy.
