TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan hosted a “Taiwan Friendship Night” for leaders of its diplomatic allies at its office in New York as the UN opened its 80th General Assembly.

Envoy to the US Alexander Yui (俞大㵢) said Taiwan is a beacon of democracy in the Indo-Pacific positioned at an international strategic hub, per CNA. The country will continue to strengthen friendships with allies and with nations sharing its values, he added.

President Hilda Heine of the Marshall Islands and Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines were among the more than 100 guests at Tuesday’s friendship night. The event also featured several foreign ministers and ambassadors to the UN from Taiwan’s 12 allies.
